Overview

Gregg Kaplan—a former officer with the CIA—is hired by a private investigator to track down a missing man whose last known location was France.

He enlists Pete Moss, a retired Witness Security Deputy U. S. Marshal, to help him locate the man. What Kaplan doesn’t know is that the man he is supposed to find is not who he was led to believe—the beneficiary of a fortune.

Their first stop is Beaune, France where the search turns deadly when they confront a Russian asset on the same mission. This coincidence triggers Kaplan’s operative instincts and plunges the duo into the dark clandestine world Kaplan thought he’d left behind.

As Kaplan is drawn deeper into the dangerous mission, he quickly uncovers the hidden agenda for the real reason he was hired. The man he is supposed to locate is actually an exiled traitor wanted by the United States Government. Kaplan’s mission: to recover the information the traitor stole.

As the body count rises and the pieces fall in place, Kaplan learns he has been betrayed. A sin he won’t forgive.

This desperate hunt —rampant with intrigue and treachery—thrusts Kaplan and Moss into an adrenaline-charged race to prevent the traitor and what he stole from falling into the wrong hands. Because that knowledge could bring the free world to its knees.

Reviews:

This book was g-r-e-a-t Fantastic!!
It’s a who’s who international super spies as Kaplan & Moss take on agents from Iran & Russia, while teaming up with a former flame of Kaplan’s from the Mossad as they all hunt a traitor from the US for different reasons; some want him dead and/or jailed, others want him alive for the info he possesses. Kaplan also faces traitors from his own Government who want him dead and the information for their own personal gain.

I loved this book. It is a page-turner filled with suspenseful twists. Kaplan and Moss are entertaining, with natural and fun dialogue. Characters and settings are well defined with just the right detail to visualize, but not too much. The story kept pulling me to the next chapter to see what happens. If this is your first Chuck Barrett book, enjoy! Then, read all his prior award-winning novels too. If you’ve read his earlier thrillers, you may just love this one the best. I did.

I highly recommend this action adventure book by author Chuck Barrett. I’ve enjoyed all of his books but this one is extra special! There’s something very appealing about the main character, Gregg Kaplan & his partner, Pete Moss. Their spy craft is superb & there’s no telling what their next moves will be. Never a dull moment with these two!

Gregg Kaplan and Moss are an interesting team. I love both of these characters. Remind me a lot of some people I know or would like to know. So many cool characters in Devil in the Wind. Didn’t want it to end. Ready for another Gregg Kaplan book. Great job.”

I received this book just before a big storm here in Colorado. Timing couldn’t have been better. I got into a comfortable chair and dug into another intriguing Gregg Kaplan novel from author Chuck Barrett. Kaplan again is the reluctant protagonist who gets drawn into another international crisis that demands the best of him and his accomplice Moss. Once engaged Kaplan and Moss are thrown into one crisis after another that demand the best from each of them. The story builds in depth and interest throughout the book until the final chapters when Kaplan must face the most unlikely of adversaries. Barrett is a gifted story teller and has penned another great thriller.

Gregg Kaplan and his companion, Moss, are on another hair-raising adventure that takes them through Europe chasing a villain. It has all kinds of interesting twists and turns along the way. The book is another great read by a great author. This book follows Disruption which sort of ties in and gives the characters some background. At the end of each chapter, there is an interesting hanger that keeps you wanting to go on to the next chapter. If you pick up this book, you won’t be disappointed. You will be a Chuck Barrett fan like I am.

I’m a big fan of Chuck Barrett’s books. This book kept me reading into the early hours and is mostly set in northern France. What made it even more enjoyable for me is that I’ve visited several of the places where the story was set. Mr Barrett’s description of the areas I visited is just as I remember it. The story moves along at a fast pace, with never a dull moment and I found myself chuckling at some of the dialogue between Gregg Kaplan and Pete Moss. I’m looking forward to reading more of their adventures. I hope it won’t be too long before the next book is available. A well-deserved five stars!
